چکیده

Human impact on western Mediterranean mountains is gaining more attention, as they harbour a rich plant diversity threatened by global change. This paper presents an analysis of two pollen records from both sides Sierra Nevada, the prime plant-diversity centre Mediterranean, spanning last 5400 years. The sought to answer following key questions: When did natural systems transform cultural landscapes? What was intensity and extent alterations driven diverse civilizations? A compilation archaeological paleaeoclimatic data supported this analysis, well multi-proxy palaeoecological study using pollen, non-pollen palynomorphs microcharcoal, searching for imprint that societies left these mountains. Results suggest human influences started earlier than expected, with strong forest cover, oriented towards crops southern face livestock northern one, whereas mining metallurgy were initial drivers population dynamics. Irrigation has farming since at least Islamic period. More recent anthropogenic control land-use management have allowed further spread tree cover. Proper conservation strategies need long-term perspectives, including studies. preservation traditional activities like grazing, high-elevation cropping or irrigation become essential maintain current biodiversity.

The Sinfonevada database is a forest inventory that contains information on the forest ecosystem in the Sierra Nevada mountains (SE Spain). The Sinfonevada dataset contains more than 7,500 occurrence records belonging to 270 taxa (24 of these threatened) from floristic inventories of the Sinfonevada Forest inventory. Expert field workers collected the information. The whole dataset underwent a ...

Dataset of Passerine bird communities in a Mediterranean high mountain (Sierra Nevada, Spain)

In this data paper, a dataset of passerine bird communities is described in Sierra Nevada, a Mediterranean high mountain located in southern Spain. The dataset includes occurrence data from bird surveys conducted in four representative ecosystem types of Sierra Nevada from 2008 to 2015. For each visit, bird species numbers as well as distance to the transect line were recorded. A total of 27847...

Controls on fan development - evidence from fan morphometry and sedimentology; Sierra Nevada, SE Spain

We have studied the morphology and the morphometric relations between alluvial fans and drainage basins in a bajada system including more than 20 coalescent fans developed since the Late Pleistocene as a result of the recent uplift of the Sierra Nevada (Betic Cordillera, Spain). Three allocycles of tectonic origin were recognised across which there is a clear evolution from debris flow to sheet...

Dataset of Phenology of Mediterranean high-mountain meadows flora (Sierra Nevada, Spain)

Sierra Nevada mountain range (southern Spain) hosts a high number of endemic plant species, being one of the most important biodiversity hotspots in the Mediterranean basin. The high-mountain meadow ecosystems (borreguiles) harbour a large number of endemic and threatened plant species. In this data paper, we describe a dataset of the flora inhabiting this threatened ecosystem in this Mediterra...

Climatic influences on fire regimes in the northern Sierra Nevada mountains, Lake Tahoe Basin, Nevada, USA

Methods Pre-EuroAmerican settlement fire regimes (i.e. frequency, return interval, extent, season) were reconstructed in eight contiguous watersheds for a 200-year period (1650–1850) from fire scars preserved in the annual growth rings of nineteenth century cut stumps and recently dead pre-settlement Jeffrey pine trees. Superposed epoch analysis (SEA) and correlation analysis were used to exami...
